PUPPY PROGRAM

Welcome to the puppy program at Havelock Setters. We've been raising puppies our way since about 1980. In that time, we have been fortunate to work several American Field and Gun Dog Champions on our farm including Havelock Blacksmith, New Hope, Premium, Havelock Ike, Havelock Doc, All Age Runner Up Champion Havelock Citation, and Havelock Powerball. We've got a great place to work and raise puppies. There are over 3,000 acres on our farm with lots of space and lots of opportunity to learn how to hunt and point wild birds.

We take your puppy and raise him as if he were our own. Lots of time on the farm and developed our way as fine gun dogs and field trial puppies. There are some hazards to be raised and running loose on our farm. We will do the best to take care of your puppy as if it were our own. However, as with any puppy, bad things may happen. In order for them to learn how to hunt and be good pets, there is always the risk they may be lost or injured due to a variety of reasons. We are over a mile from a lightly traveled road, so we feel that your puppy (as well as our own puppies) are safe on our farm. We are not responsible for injury, death or loss of your puppy while he is in our puppy program.

You can leave your puppy that you purchase from us and move him right into our puppy program.

Your cost to enroll in our puppy program is $400 per month, plus vaccinations from 2 months - 6 months of age. The charge is $450 per month per pup for 6 - 10 months of age. Any veterinary expenses for your puppy, including vaccinations are billed extra to you. Vaccination costs are about $10 every two weeks until 20 weeks and then a $20 rabies vaccination at 3 months of age.

We do not take puppies into the puppy program during the winter months. (October thru February).

Hi Kerry, thought I would give you a small update on Jesse. He arrived here just fine and we spent the weekend bonding with him, taking walks on a leash, etc. He got comfortable very quickly and had a blast wrestling with my Lab. Took him to a "Dog Park" a couple of times and he got to meet a few other dogs. During our first visit there, an Alpha female setter took off on both of my dogs and that made Jesse pretty uncomfortable for most of the visit. On the second visit, he had a ball. Had him in the house a lot over the weekend and he caught on quickly, of course that was after he walked into a glass door a couple of times. He didn't have an accident in the house over 4 days and even got real comfortable on his own bed beside the Lab, but most of the time, crawled onto the same bed the Lab was on. At night, I kept him in a crate inside the kennel and he rested well and ate well. I took him to my trainer on Tuesday for three weeks of work in the field. Nothing aggressive right now at all, just a lot of walks in the fields, crossing fences, etc. I suspect that he already has all of that from his time with you, but I'm investing in it anyway. He found his first quail yesterday and the trainer called me to tell me about it. Jesse held the point until he flushed the bird and then chased it for a while. The trainer loves him already!!
