Falconry

Hunting with English Setters and Falcons is a passion for some hunters.  We thought that our readers might enjoy knowing about this facet of bird hunting that only a handful of people pursue and enjoy.  Special permits are needed to own/keep falcons and hawks.  Below you will see some of the photos we have received from the falcon hunts. Photos are a courtesy of G.G. of Montana. Click on photos to enlarge.

Kerry,  Here are a few more for you.  The one of B and the grouse was one of my best flights this year.  It is a real feat to catch a grouse with a male peregrine, like getting a 200 whitetail.  It does not happen very often.  The females on the other hand, like Dodger, catch them pretty good, they are much bigger and more powerful than the males. GG

Kerry, A couple shots of the young dogs working Sharptail last week.  I am flying the falcons over B allot now.  Once I got it thru her head that whoa means whoa, we were back in business.  Katie is just a year now and is doing real good. Has a great nose and nice point, best thing is she minds me real well.  Concerning the falcon hitting the pheasant in the air, that is very common.  The normal way that they catch their prey.  G G

Kerry, Look at what you have done to my living room.  I love it. We have been running them the past few days and flying lots of falcons over them.  All Havelock dogs.  Front, L to R.  Puppa (C.H.), Katie, Jill (M.K.), Back row, Cass, Magie, B Dog.  G.G.  .................  MT
