Havelock Doc is a very stylish dog that has a very straight, 12 o'clock tail. Doc really loves to point, and has a very good nose. Doc has a beautiful head and has excellent conformation. Doc stays with me and hunts for me. Doc was very easy to train because he really likes to find and point birds. Doc is more interested in pointing birds than in chasing them. In October, 1996 at the Logging Camp Ranch, Doc won the 1996 North Dakota Pheasant Championship, a walking trail, just short of his 2nd birthday.

Doc's father is 6x Shooting Dog Champion, Destinare. His father, Destinare, was the 1994 Top shooting dog in the United States. Destinare made field trial history in the 1993-1994 field trial season. First of all, he made history by accumulating 4,475 points during the season. That is the most points since the Top Shooting Dog Award was initiated, and nearly three times as many points as the second place dog, the English Pointer, Sumter's Hacienda Bull, which scored 1,550 points. Destinare's record of 4,475 points may be broken someday, but will stand a long time.

Destinare closed out his winning season by doing something which had never been done before. He won three consecutive major championships in a row: The Egyptian Shooting Dog Championship (114 entries); The Illinois Shooting Dog Championship (140 entries, which is the most in American Field Championship history); and the Michigan Shooting Dog Championship (79 entries). In those three trials, Destinare defeated the most rivals ever faced in three straight Championships, scoring a victory over 333 of the country's top shooting dogs. Earlier in the season, Jake also won the Northeastern Championship (75 entries) and took runner-up at the North Carolina Championship (77 entries).

Destinare's performance helped Harold Ray earn the 1994 Biskit Handler of the Year Award as the Top Shooting Dog Handler in the United States.
Destinare's field trial records of most entries defeated in a single championship; first dog to ever win three consecutive major championships; most entries defeated in three consecutive championships; and unbelievable total of 4,475 points for the Shooting Dog Season make him a favorite to be elected to The Field Trial Hall of Fame.

Destinare's father, Ch. The Performer, was inducted into the Field Trial Hall of Fame in September, 1995, the first English Setter so honored since Ch. Tomoka was elected in 1985. Ch. Destinare, Ch. The Performer and Ch.Tomoka are all products of the Elwin and Inez Smith kennel. The Smith Setter's are the most successful English Setters in field trail history.

Ch. Destinare, and Ch. The Performer are featured in a nice article on pp. 12-19 of the November 1996 issue of "The Pointing Dog Journal"

Doc's mother is our stylish female, Havelock Dolly. Dolly, and now her son Havelock Doc represent what we call our "Old Jenny" line. Havelock Jenny was a great bird finder. She would stand there all day if that's how long it took you to get over there for the flush. She just loved to find 'em and point 'em. Jenny would take her young pups out in the field for hunting lessons as soon as they were old enough to follow. When Jenny would find a bird and point it, if one of the pups tried to rush in and bust 'em, Jenny would nail the pup and scold it. It didn't take long before we had the whole litter out pointing and backing each other. We feel Dolly and now Havelock Doc are the best of that line of Jenny pups. Doc is one of those pups that had the strongest desire to point and back at an early age.

We feel that all aspects of training, hunting or trialing will be easier for the handler when he is working with a pup that really likes to point. These Doc pups are a result of that selection of dogs from "the Old Jenny Line" that really like to point.
